Fabio Mastrangelo is among the most promising young conductors of his generation. Following piano studies in Italy, in Geneva, and at the Royal Academy of Music in London, he became a conducting student of Leonard Bernstein. In 1990, he moved to North America to complete his conducting studies at the Faculty of Music of the University of Toronto.
Currently residing in St. Petersburg (Russia), Maestro Mastrangelo maintains the position of Music Director of Virtuosi di Toronto, one of Canada's finest chamber orchestras and was recently appointed Principal Conductor of the St. Petersburg Festival Orchestra.
Following Mr. Mastrangelo's conducting debut in 2001 with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Russia's foremost orchestra and part of a restricted elite in the world, he has become one of its regular conductors both in Russia and on tour.
Recent CDs releases include 2 volumes of orchestral music by the Milanese composer Elisabetta Brusa distributed worldwide by the leading classical music label NAXOS. Selections from these CDs are often played on classical music radios worldwide.
A gifted pianist, Fabio Mastrangelo is frequently heard in solo and chamber music recitals throughout Europe and as far as Japan, as well as on the most prestigious radio network in the world.
Mr. Mastrangelo's St. Petersburg opera debut, conducting Verdi's Traviata at the Mussorgsky Theatre, received critical and audience acclaim. Upcoming engagements include several operatic and symphonic concerts as well as recitals worldwide.
