His world records in the 100 and 200-meter backstroke lasted an amazing seven years after his retirement. He was also the first swimmer in history to win two individual Olympic medals on the same day of competition. In 1977, Mr. Naber led his school, the University of Southern California (USC Trojans), to his and their fourth undefeated season and national title, while earning a record of ten individual titles and five relay crowns. He also earned the sport’s high point award (Robert Kiputh Award) on three occasions, and earned the 1977 James E. Sullivan Award as America’s top amateur athlete. During his athletic career John Naber won 25 National (AAU) titles. In 1984, he carried the Olympic Flag into the Opening Ceremony of the Los Angeles Games, and he was elected into the U.S. Olympic Committee Hall of Fame. He has carried the Olympic flame as part of four different torch relays. After his retirement from sports, Mr. Naber almost immediately entered the field of broadcasting. He has worked in television for over 30 years, covering over 35 different sports for television and radio. His work has aired on all the major networks and various cable outlets. He is one of America’s leading television analysts, commentators, and hosts, providing viewers with unique and entertaining perspectives on the behind-the-scenes stories of athletes. He has covered nine Olympic Games including the Games in Athens, and is a regular on ABC’s coverage of the annual Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA. As a speaker, John Naber brings many of these Olympic anecdotes to his audiences.
