Change | Human Resources/Workplace Issues | Stress Management After earning a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Dr. Ben Bissell earned his doctorate degree with a concentration in the area of Organization and Human Behavior. He continued his postgraduate work at the Medical College of Virginia, where he taught courses on the emotional care of patients and worked with department staffs on how to manage conflict. Dr. Ben Bissell has continued an interest in group dynamics, and he teaches over 150 programs annually to companies, organizations, schools, and hospitals. Early in his career Ben Bissell served as a counselor at hospitals in Miami, Florida and Richmond, Virginia. He was appointed director of a Virginia counseling center where he developed his professional demeanor, understanding, and empathy for the problems people face in the workplace as well as at home. Insights from Dr. Bissell’s programs have been printed in major magazines and newspapers across the country, including the Wall Street Journal. He has often been interviewed on radio and television shows and answered audience call-in questions. For the past several years, he has taught a course for school principals from around the world at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. Ben Bissell’s work with the U.S. government earned him outstanding awards from government agencies including the U.S. Department of Defense and the Department of the Interior, Office of Inspector General. He has been commissioned an “Arkansas Traveler” by the Governor of Arkansas and recently proclaimed a “Kentucky Colonel” by the Governor of Kentucky for his outstanding presentations. Dr. Bissell received congressional recognition and is often introduced not only as a speaker but also as a master teacher. Dr. Ben Bissell is in demand by federal government agencies, including all four branches of the United States armed forces, the Social Security Administration, major medical training centers, Fortune 500 companies, and leading universities, where he is an active featured speaker in leadership programs at Harvard University, the University of North Carolina, and the University of Richmond. He is requested to assist our European military bases on an annual basis. However, Ben Bissell’s real training comes from growing up in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, an area noted for its heritage of storytelling, which he has mastered well. He has the ability to take complex ideas and present them in everyday language, blended with his quick wit and warm sense of humor. Participants often remark that his presentation is not only a learning experience but enjoyable as well.
