A former PR executive who abandoned a high-paying job to pursue a more fulfilling life, Maria Murnane is the award-winning author of the romantic comedies Perfect on Paper, It’s a Waverly Life, Honey on Your Mind, and Chocolate for Two. She has inspired audiences across the country with the “story behind the story,” an entertaining tale of the courage, passion and perseverance it took to make her dreams come true.
Ms. Murnane had a successful career in public relations for nearly 10 years before admitting to herself that she was not happy. Knowing she would be miserable if she stayed on her current path, she quit and went to Argentina for what was supposed to be a two-week solo trip be-fore facing real life again. She ended up staying in Buenos Aires for a year, played semi-professional soccer for one of the most famous clubs in the world, and finally did something she had always thought about, which was write a humorous novel based on her experiences as a single, professional woman in San Francisco.
The book, Perfect on Paper, was initially turned down by several major publishing houses, so Maria Murnane self-published and implemented a creative, grass-roots marketing campaign in an effort to prove them wrong. And it worked!
Within a year Perfect on Paper attracted the attention of senior executives at Amazon, who chose it out of more than 10,000 self-published titles for the company’s venture into traditional publishing. They offered Maria a contract, and in 2010 an updated version of the award-winning novel was released by the AmazonEncore imprint in the United States. It climbed the Amazon charts to #2 and has been published in Hungary and Germany, with Serbian and Indonesian editions on the way. Two sequels, It’s a Waverly Life and Honey on Your Mind, have also been published, andChocolate for Two is set for an early 2013 release.
She has been featured in USA Today, The Huffington Post, Publishers Weekly, Entrepreneur, and PopSugar.
In addition to working on her own novels and delivering speeches, Ms. Murnane is a paid blogger for CreateSpace and occasionally helps aspiring authors as a consultant. She was a Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholar at UC Berkeley, where she graduated with high honors in English and Spanish and was an Alumni Scholar.
Maria Murnane received a master’s degree in integrated marketing communications from Northwestern University.
