Clifford Schorer, Ph.D is a serial entrepreneur who specializes in the start-up acquisition and development of small and mid-sized companies. He focuses on businesses with unique ideas or technologies that are in need of guidance during their initial growth phases.
Following a successful business career Professor Schoerer joined Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business faculty as the Entrepreneur in Residence. In addition to teaching Launching New Ventures, he serves as faculty advisor to the Eugene M. Lang Investment Fund. In the spring of 2005, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for his contribution to the study of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Columbia and in 2007 he received the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence.
Professor Schorer has been involved with companies in the high tech arena, his last position being CEO of GeoVideo Networks, a Lucent Technologies Venture.
His career included businesses in the real estate, office-supply and health care industries. During the early 1990's he spent a considerable amount of time in Russia using his entrepreneurial approach to assist in the privatization process. He serves on a number of boards including Landauer Metropolitan, a large privately owned supplier of medical equipment. His most recent appointment is as Chairman of Stepping Stone Capital Partners, an investment banking firm. In addition, he serves on the board of Out2Play, a nonprofit which has built over 100 playgrounds for NY elementary schools.
In addition to his involvement with Columbia, he is a founding partner at Greenwich Energy Solutions a company specializing in creating energy efficient environments in commercial buildings.
During his extensive professional career, Professor Schorer has lectured in numerous business and academic forums both in the United States and abroad. He serves in a consultative and Executive Education capacity to senior management in global corporations including Sony, Glaxo SKB, Pfizer, Novartis, Telefonica, Lend Lease, and Alcatel Lucent’s Bell Lab.
Professor Schorer has also developed financial management software programs for business education through his publishing company Bized. He serves as an Emcee and public speaker for national and international corporate events. Cliff Schorer has also appeared a number of times on CNN Money Line and CNBC’s Squawk Street.
